A gentle 3-day meandering journey through the literary history of the Sussex Ouse Valley.

Journey inside, outside, with ipse wilderness, on this gently reflective journey through the remarkable cultural history of this ancient landscape. As we follow the soft contours of the River Ouse, we will be invited to reflect on our life's journey; on the ancient flow which has sustained us, and the currents which run deep within our souls. Stopping to soak up the literary and artistic context of Charleston House and the fascinating history of Lewes Castle and Museum, this is a rich autumnal tour for those who really wish to "drink at every pore the spirit of the season", immersing themselves in nature, culture and the deep still waters of their own life.

Route: Riverside paths and footpaths through fields and farmland, via Charleston and Lewes.

Accommodation: Shared rooms in B&B/hotels. Single supplement available on request.

Difficulty: Nourishing; walking distance 17 miles, 4-7 miles per day, flat terrain, pace 2 mph.

Programme:

Day 1: Newick to Barcombe Mills (6 miles).

Day 2: Barcombe Mills to Lewes (4 miles). Visit Lewes Castle and Museum.

Day 3: Lewes to Charleston (7 miles, return by bus). Tour of Charleston House.

Public transport back to Newick for departure.

Cost: £400 per person. This includes all accommodation, entrance fees & activities. Does not include meals, apart from breakfasts.
